Coverage is global excluding only the North and South Pole. The coverage is provided by three Inmarsat-4 satellites. The life of the satellites is expected to last till the 2020s.

How rugged is the IsatPhone Pro?
The IsatPhone Pro is the most rugged and robust satellite phone on the market. It is splash, dust and shock proof with an IP54 ingress protection rating. The IsatPhone Pro can operate is a extreme range of temperature ranging from -4 degrees F to +131 degrees F -20 degrees C to +55 degrees C. The satellite phone can also operate in humidity from 0 to 95%.

The voice quality is clear. The IsatPhone Pro incorporates a 2.4kbps voice codec.
Is the Inmarsat network reliable?
The IsatPhone Pro uses the Inmarsat satellite communication network which is the most reliable network in the world. Unlike low earth orbiting satellites the three geostationary I-4 satellites provide significantly less dropped calls and periods of no service.
What does the phone include?
Out of the box you receive a handheld satellite phone, AC charger with four International adapters, long life battery, cigarette lighter charger, USB cable for charging from a PC, headset for hands free use, wrist strap, quick start guide, support CD and warranty.
What is the support CD used for?
The CD includes a user guide in a PDF file in 8 languages; quick start guide and warranty information. It also includes USB drivers for connecting your IsatPhone Pro to a computer; a contact synchronization tool and a firmware upgrade tool.
Is the IsatPhone Pro easy to use?
The IsatPhone Pro handset has a large color screen that is easy to see in sunlight and it has a large keypad allowing you to dial wearing gloves.
Making calls are easy, simply move the antenna to a vertical position then allow the phone to register with the network and then dial the number using an International format. You do need to be outside away from tall structures and trees when using the phone.
Will the IsatPhone Pro work Indoors?
With any satellite phone you most have line-of-site to the satellite(s) you are communicating with. Because the IsatPhone Pro uses three geostationary I-4 satellites that are basically stationary like a television satellite you may be able to obtain a signal through a window. Once you have established a signal you can use the Bluetooth option indoors giving you the freedom away from the phone.
Other satellite phone providers like Globalstar and Iridium use low earth orbiting satellites that are constantly in motion so if you do obtain a signal it most likely will be lost as the satellite moves loosing the line-of-site.
Another option is the IsatPhone Pro has a docking station option which includes an external antenna. The external antenna can be placed outdoors giving the phone the line-of-site to the satellite that is required for communication.
What interfaces are included?
The IsatPhone Pro has a micro USB connection for connecting and charging the satellite phone with a computer; antenna ports for connecting to a docking station; and a 2.5mm audio socket.
The IsatPhone Pro is the only handheld satellite phone that has Bluetooth capability. The phone can be placed on its side while still connected to the network as long as you keep the antenna in a vertical position. This allows the phone to be used handset free with a Bluetooth device.

There are 8 languages supported by the IsatPhone Pro which include Spanish, English, Arabic, Chinese, French, Japanese, Portuguese and Russian.
What is the data service like?
By 2011 circuit switched data will be available at 2.4kbps.
What operating systems are compatible?
The IsatPhone Pro is compatible with Microsoft Outlook 2007 running on Windows Vista SP1 or Windows XP Pro SP3.
What accessories are optional?
Bean Communications will produce the IsatPhone Pro docking stations. The docking station will allow the phone to be used indoors, in a vehicle and at sea if the phone is needed to be used indoors. Other optional accessories include Bluetooth headset, carrying case and solar chargers.
