How the IsatPhone Link Service Works

The IsatPhone Link service is a global satellite service provided at a low cost used by the BEAM Terra 400 and 800 fixed site satellite phone terminals.  These fixed site satellite phone terminals provide voice, data and SMS service to remote areas not served by cellular or landline service. 

The IsatPhone Link service can provide solutions for a wide range of needs which include phone service for rural communities, safety and welfare communication and back up communication.  Back up communications can be provided to emergency management agencies, oil & gas industry and construction.

The Terra 400 and 800 satellite phone terminals using the IsatPhone Link service provides a fixed site solution where permanent reliable communications service is required.  The Terra 400 and 800 is wall or desk mountable and is splash proof.  Both units include a passive directional antenna which must be mounted outdoors.  The antenna must have an 80% view of the sky.  Trees and large structures can block the line-of-site needed for the fixed site satellite phone to communicate with one of the Inmarsat I-4 satellites. 

There are five optional IsatDock cable kits available in 10m, 20m, 30m, 40m and 50m lengths.  The length needed will be determined by what distance the antenna must be mounted away from the fixed satellite phone.

Both the Terra 400 and 800 satellite phones include a POTS/RJ11 interface.  Up to five corded or cordless phones can be integrated with these units though the RJ11 interface.  The RJ11 interface can also be integrated to a PABX system.  It provides the dial, ring and busy tones.  Up to 2000 feet of RJ11 cable can be ran away from either the Terra 400 or 800 satellite phones. 

The Terra 800 satellite phone includes an integrated handset, SMS capability and an additional SIM slot for multiple users.  Because the Terra 400 satellite phone does not have an integrated handset it will require a corded or cordless RJ11 phone to operate. 

Data service up to 20kbps can be provided through the USB interface.  Both the Terra 400 and 800 have optional battery packs.

Phone features the Terra 800 has over the 400 include: color LCD display, phone book, speaker phone, privacy handset, SMS service, Bluetooth headset compatible and dual SIM card enclosures.

Once fully installed end users will have no problem operating the unit(s).  With dial, ring and busy tones provided by both the Terra 400 and 800 satellite phones end users will operate the units similar to their home phones.
